Curriculum Vitae

Christian Hoffmann received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in Mechatronics from Hamburg University of Technology, Germany, in 2008 and 2011, respectively. From 2011 to 2015, he pursued his Ph.D. degree at the Institute of Control Systems at Hamburg University of Technology. His fields of research included the modeling and control of complex uncertain, nonlinear and time-varying systems in linear parameter-varying form. He also worked on the efficient modeling and control of nonlinear interconnected systems. Since 2015 he has been holding a permanent position at the Institute for Electrical Engineering in
Medicine at the University of Lübeck. He is currently active researching probabilistic algorithms in systems and control, while maintaining an interest in applied modern control theory. He is also strongly interested in the ethics of engineering and innovative technologies since 2010. He commits to teaching students engineering ethics and promotes a broad participation and interdisciplinary approaches in engineering research for the benefit of our world's ecology and society.

       abstract = {A major difficulty encountered in the application of linear parameter-varying (LPV) control is the complexity of synthesis and implementation when the number of scheduling parameters is large. Often heuristic ad hoc solutions involve the neglection of individual scheduling parameters, such that standard LPV controller synthesis methods become applicable. The principle component analysis (PCA) based technique of parameter set mapping (PSM) has been proposed as a systematic way for obtaining LPV models with fewer scheduling parameters. However, controller designs based on an approximate model cannot guarantee stability and performance when implemented on the original plant. In this paper, a posteriori conditions are proposed to assess closed-loop stability and performance. Moreover, a possible synthesis approach is sketched based on iterating between convex optimization problems. A two-degree-of- freedom (2-DOF) robotic manipulator is considered as an illustrative example.},

Zugleich k{\"o}nnen Regelstrecken durch eine verteilte Struktur {\"a}hnlicher interagierender LPV-Subsysteme eine hohe Komplexit{\"a}t erlangen. Die vorliegende Arbeit behandelt Methoden zur Modellierung komplexer LPV-Systeme, sowohl im Sinne nichtlinearer, als auch verteilter Regelstrecken, und beinhaltet verbesserte Entwurfswerkzeuge, die zu niedrigerem Synthese- und Implementierungsaufwand f{\"u}hren.
      
      The controller design for complex nonlinear systems using the framework of linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems often leads to high costs in modeling, synthesis and implementation. Interconnected LPV subsystems also yield complex systems. This thesis presents methods for the modeling of complex LPV systems, in the sense of nonlinear as well as interconnected subsystems and introduces improved controller synthesis tools that lead to reduced synthesis and implementation costs.},
