Water Rescue Drones
Lifesaving in the Wadden Sea using special water rescue drones
The WaterRescueDrones project is developing a drone that can autonomously search for missing people in the Wadden Sea.
Every year, several search operations are carried out to find lost walkers in the Wadden Sea. These searches are carried out manually using boats, special vehicles and helicopters. An automated search using drones would make the search more efficient.
This is a collaborative project between Fraunhofer IMTE (automatic flight path planning of the drone for optimal search), FH Westküste (person and material recognition from video data) and NXP Semiconductors Germany GmbH (communication with ground station and operations management).
Project duration: 01.08.2023 – 31.07.2026
This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) as part of the UAM-InnoRegion-SH program.
